Good Movies To Watch and Feel Good After

What do you do to recover from a really hard and tiring day? Most people would go to a bar, a concert, or a play. Some may take a nap or read a book. If you are like me, you’d curl up on a couch with a comfort food and watch a feel good movie. I like movies that make my heart pitter pat or make me laugh or cry. My mission is this: to make an ultimate list of feel-good movies for guys out there who are in search of inspiration, relaxation or simply a reason to laugh and cry on a given Sunday or on those rainy days and you are at home with nothing to do.

Why this list

I have done my own share of searching for a list like this. Sadly, they are not that easy to come by and mostly the ones I find are in forums where each person will mention two or three titles many of which duplicate. So I thought of putting them all together in a single list just for the next guy who’s also hunting for relaxing films, or films to kindle their romantic side, or just to find inspiration.

I arranged them all by title and I have also made links to Amazon in case you want to purchase them as part of your collection. Many of these movies are, after all, timeless in their message and tend to hold their magic, even if watched over and over again. Good to share with friends too. So, enjoy!
My Feel-Good Movie Criteria
Why you may not like my list

In my opinion, a feel-good movie is supposed to do what it says: make you feel good when when the credits start to roll. This list includes the films which I have personally watched and enjoyed, oftentimes making me wear a daft grin afterwards. What do these films have in common that qualifies them to my list? Here are a few that come to mind. These qualities may not all be present in every film but at least two or three should be there.

* Happy ending – Alright, I have to admit that I am a sucker for this. After all, I want to feel good, don’t I? A good story line helps a film to come up to this list. Not all of them, though are in this category, but most are.
* Inspirational – I like films that promote some ideal, value, virtue, whether faith-based or not. It’s good to watch a film that leaves you with the feeling that you too can be better than what you are right now.
* Revenge of the underdogs – Don’t we all sympathize with the underdog, the poor, the powerless, the downtrodden, the (alright, I guess you get my drift) and don’t we just love it when they triumph despite their disadvantages?
* Romantic – Ah, I have to admit, this one is influenced by my wife who always joins me in my movie watching. “Sabrina” anyone?
* Cinematography – Scenery, camera placement and angles, when properly picked out by the filmmaker improve the relaxation value of the film a lot. Aided by advancement in sound technology, that feeling of “being there” can really heighten film enjoyment.
* Dialogues – Practically all of Jane Austen movies are in this list because of the witty lines and beautiful prose. By the way, I am scandalized by too many four-letter words so if a film is listed here with those, they are the most I could tolerate. Sorry.
* Social relevance – I put this at the end of this list of criteria because sometimes I feel that films that require rigorous intellectual exercise to appreciate tend to lessen their relaxation value to me at least. I usually reserve such films for other viewing occasions but it does help to have a bit of this in feel-good movies. Relevance, after all, is not irrelevant.
